Northside Roofs and What They Need

The classic northside roof is the interwar or post-war semi, and its needs are well understood. Concrete-tile and slate roofs from the 1930s through the 1960s across Beaumont, Whitehall, Artane and Coolock are now old enough that the coverings and their fixings are tiring, and because whole roads went up together, one repair on a street often turns into several on the same terrace. Re-bedding ridges, refixing slipped slates and tiles, and renewing worn flashings are the everyday jobs here.

The older red-brick and pebbledash homes of Drumcondra, Glasnevin, Marino and Fairview lean more toward natural slate, with the chimneys and valley detailing that come with period housing.
